Classical Ballet

The foundation of all dance, classical ballet teaches grace, poise, posture, core strength, flexibility and builds self discipline. This form should be studied first and in conjunction with other forms of dance.

Pointe

By recommendation of the Director. Factors include age and ability. Ballet is required as well.

Tap

Rhythmically oriented, tap enhances memory and promotes quick thinking, fast foot work, and flexible feet and ankles.

Acro

Students are taught skills that will increase their coordination, strength, and flexibility. The class is designed to master rolls, cartwheels, backbends, hand springs, and aerials.

Jazz

A high energy class that combines many styles of dance from ballet, contemporary, to hip hop. Rhythm, upon which all dance forms depend is an important part of Jazz dance. The class includes strengthening and tone of muscles to help develop stress free alignment of the skeletal structures. A variety of music selections from soul, R & B, jazz, and pop music gives this class a good workout and a fun way to obtain body awareness that can be applied to everyday activities.

Hip Hop

 

A high energy structured class that emphasizes rhythm, athleticism, and most importantly personal expression. The urban culture style provides a funkier edge to a basic style of street dance.

Musical Theater

 

This class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows.

Clogging

This style of dance truly evolved out of the Appalachian Mountain Region in the mid 1700’s.  It is a percussive dance performed with double taps on the shoes, and is a high energy workout. Recommended ages 7 & up.

Contemporary

 

This class combines the art of dance expression through the execution of fluid movements. It includes several dance genres such as modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.

Ballroom / Wedding

These classes are structured for partnering which is preferred but not required. Styles taught include beginning social dancing in Cha-cha, East and West Coast Swing, Nightclub Two, Salsa, Two-Step, and Waltz.  Group rates available for a minimum of four students.  Private lessons available at the standard studio rate.

Zumba

This class consists of Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, and Reggaeton. It combines upbeat music, fast and slow rhythms to provide  great cardio and muscle toning.. Burn an average of 400-650 calories in a one hour class.

Purpose

Dance develops independent thinking, self expression and a good work ethic. We strive to teach our students how to test their own personal boundaries and not simply settle for what comes easy. The material that we teach is kept in sync with the physical, mental and performance ability of our students.

Our program is arranged on a two semester basis. Classes beginning in the fall semester continue through December. New classes begin with the second semester in January of each year. Please note that our enrollment in the courses is closed after four weeks of instruction. Please see the Director for exceptions to this rule.

Recitals

Our dancers participate in two recitals per year the first being our Christmas Showcase where PDA provides the costumes for each dancer.

The year-end Spring Recital costumes, however, are purchased by the parent for each style of dance their child participates in. Spring Recital fee includes, 2 recital tickets for the show, recital DVD, dancer t-shirt, and program. If you attend PDA for consecutive years, dancers receive a Recital trophy for years, 2,3,5,7,8,10 and beyond. 

Tuition and costume fees vary depending on class level and number of classes taken.

Dress Code

 

At PDA we believe modest, age appropriate dance attire is the key to a successful learning environment in all classes.

Hair should be secured out of the face and off the neck. Hair for all ballet classes should be in a bun. No loose jewelry should be worn during any class.

Ballet: Female  

Leotard (your choice of color)
Pink tights
Pink Leather ballet shoes
(Canvas can be worn from age 8 & up)

Ballet: Male

Black mid-thigh to knee-length shorts
Black leather ballet shoes
Socks

Tap

Leotard and leggings or shorts
Tights or socks
Black tap shoes (see instructor for older classes)

Jazz

Leotard or unitard
Jazz shorts or pants
Slip on tan jazz shoes (unless black shoes are specified by the instructor)
Tights or socks

Hip Hop

Athletic apparel comfortable for movement
Black sneakers worn only in the dance studio

Not Permitted

No chewing gum on dance floor

No street shoes on dance floor

No denim or tight fitting pants

No unsupervised children outside on the grounds

You will need prior approval from a PDA director if interested in taking additional classes outside PDA

Achievement

Anyone ages 5 to 19 who loves to dance with that extra commitment, is welcome to audition.

Dancers are placed in the appropriate company for their skill level and age. Company dancers are trained in style, performance qualities, and also with an added emphasis on technique.

Additional rehearsals will be required.

The company teams are geared toward the dancer who wants growth, shows determination within classes and simply has a love for performing. See the Director for auditions.

You will need prior approval from a PDA director if interested in taking additional classes outside PDA.
